Research published December 24, 2021, in Science describes how the two-meter skull of Earth’s “first giant” ichthyosaur species predated both extinct marine animals and modern whales, simultaneously revealing a faster evolution of large body size in ichthyosaurs than in cetaceans. According to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the fossil of a skull was excavated from the Fossil Hill Member rock unit in Nevada’s Augusta Mountains of Nevada....

Senator Lindsey Graham has created a new reality for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Graham has written a powerful resolution which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell joined in cosponsoring. Together they have attracted 50 co-sponsors – which means that with Vice President Pence supporting them, they would win a vote to dismiss any phony impeachment from the House that failed to meet a key standard of fairness. The resolution: “calls on the House of Representatives, prior to proceeding any further with its impeachment investigation into President Trump, to vote to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry;calls on the House of Representatives to provide President Trump, like every other American, with due process, to include the ability to confront his accusers, call witnesses on his behalf, and have a basic understanding of the accusations against him that would form any basis for impeachment; andcalls on the House of Representatives to provide members of the minority with the ability to participate fully in all proceedings and have equal authority to issue subpoenas and other compulsory process....

As first reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, referee Alan Maloney, who has been barred from officiating events until the conclusion of a state investigation, sent the notice of tort claim to 12 possible defendants, including the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and the school district the wrestling meet took place. Maloney alleges he suffered $100,000 in damages. “Mr. Maloney properly performed his duties as the referee and fairly applied the rules governing a wrestling match,” Maloney wrote in the notice, his first public remarks since the incident....

The Brooklyn-area Democrat, Rep. Nydia Velázquez, said she began feeling ill early Sunday morning and contacted the Capitol’s attending physician, who diagnosed her with the virus based on her symptoms but did not recommend she seek a test or doctor’s office visit. “I developed the abrupt onset of muscle aches, fevers, nasal congestion and stomach upset,” Velázquez said in a statement Monday. “My symptoms are mild at the present time and I’m taking Tylenol for fever and isolating myself at home....

In a campaign video released Monday morning, Speaker Pelosi said former Vice President Biden would be an “extraordinary president” who could lead the country out of the COVID-19 crisis. In her video statement, Speaker Pelosi said: “Today, I am proud to endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States because he will be an extraordinary President. He knows how to get the job done.” After referring to his record on the Affordable Care Act and the financial crisis, the California Democrat said Biden would be a “voice of reason and resilience” who could “lead us out of this crisis” amid rising COVID-19 infections and widespread unemployment....

Arcellie “Celi” Muschamp, 52, was struck by the vehicle on December 20 after she pushed a stroller carrying the baby across an intersection in Brooklyn, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported on her passing. “My mom was the most selfless person ever and that shows with her actions,” Muschamp’s daughter, Rahzel Muschamp, told the paper. “She truly loved the kids she looked after her.” In a post on a GoFundMe page raising funds for Muschamp’s medical care, Patrick Mullen, the baby’s father, wrote Friday that Muschamp died as a result of her injuries....
