NASA stated in a press release that it would “acquire up to three additional crew flights to the ISS as part of its Commercial Crew Transportation Capabilities (CCtCap) contract.” “The additional crew flights allow NASA to maintain an uninterrupted U.S. capability for human access to the space station,” the administration added. The additional flights mark a continuing collaboration between NASA and SpaceX. Qualifying for Saturday’s Sprint Cup race at Kentucky, the Quaker State 400, was scheduled for 5:45 p.m. ET on Friday from Kentucky Speedway, but was canceled due to rain. Martinsville Speedway is the shortest track in NASCAR which can produce some insane pushing and shoving from time to time and especially down the stretch. In last year’s playoff race, Joey Logano, who was probably going to have to win to get into the championship at Homestead, pushed Martin Truex Jr. out of the way and went on to win. He also beat out Truex for the victory at the championship, but had he not first won at Martinsville, he may have never gotten that chance....
The team’s domination started Friday when Martin Truex Jr., using JGR equipment, had the fastest lap and three other JGR drivers finished in the top-five. On Saturday, Carl Edwards was fastest followed by Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth in the top-three. During happy hour, four of the top-eight fastest speeds were JGR drivers. They’re fast on the short runs and also on the the long runs — Edwards had best 10-consecutive lap average in the first and second practices and was second-best during happy hour....
But as the race neared the finish, Denny Hamlin kept making ground by posting the fastest times in the field. With six seconds left, he made a move on the outside to pass Truex for second. Two laps later, he cut by Byron on the inside. Kevin Harvick was pushing Hamlin over the final four laps, but once Hamlin cleared Harvick’s teammate Aric Almirola on the final lap, it was clear there wasn’t going to be enough to stop the veteran driver from picking up his first win of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season and win the Toyota Owners 400....
His crew chief, James Small, has been ejected from the race for the incident. His team will be fined $35,000. The spoiler was confiscated. Truex Jr. already faced an uphill battle to reach the Cup Series championship at Phoenix. He’ll likely need to win at Texas or next weekend at Martinsville to advance past this round.
