Initial results show bizarre behavior of the sun’s magnetic field, including reversals that took just seconds. They also found thousands of “giant rogue waves,” and that when these passed the spacecraft, the solar wind sped up to over 310,000 miles per hour. The first findings from the mission have been published across four scientific papers in the journal Nature. NASA is also holding a press conference with senior members of the mission to discuss the results....

The competition, named “Tick Tick Bloom,” asks participants to look at satellite images of inland water bodies and to notice if algal blooms are present. If they are, participants should classify them based on severity. The competition offers a $12,000 first prize, with $9,000 and $6,000 being offered to the second and third-place winners, respectively. Artemis I is the first in a series of “increasingly complex missions” to attempt to build long-term human presence on the moon for decades, according to NASA. The experiment will test the limits of human survival in space, where cosmic radiation is 20 to 50 times that of what is experienced on Earth....

This year’s event will feature 85 laps, rather than the usual 80, with stage lengths of 30, 20, 20 and 15 in the final stage.
