NEWSWEEK: Operation Clean Sweep sounds almost military. SUNDBERG: It’s not meant to be military. We’re going to search the loch with two new types of sonars that are so good that if there is a monster there, then [they] will find them. That’s why we decided to name it Clean Sweep, sweeping the lake clean.
Do you really believe in the Loch Ness monster? Well, between 1,000 and 5,000 people have seen it. They can’t all be crazy, can they?
Have you ever found any lake monsters? No… [but] we’ve recorded sounds or cries which scientists can’t explain and might belong to the creatures people say are there.
Have you had any protests from animal-rights groups? We had some protests from PETA in America last year. They were protesting our using the trap in Norway. The Norwegian Government replied to PETA that they reckoned the sea serpent in Norway was a fantasy animal and that it wasn’t against the law to try to catch a fantasy animal.
