The founders of cheese toast, Sizzler, are offering guests free samples of its signature Cheese Toast on September 15, 2019, between noon to 2 p.m. local time at participating restaurants. There will also be various giveaways in store and online, including a new limited edition Cheese Toast flavored lip balm.
A History of Cheese Toast
Sizzler, which was founded in Culver City, California, on January 27, 1958, opened with $50 in the cash register. It was opened by Del and Helen Johnson and was first named “Sizzler Family Steak House.”
The food chain served its first slice of cheese toast to guests at its restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood in 1968, the company told Newsweek. Today, it is available across the U.S. as well as Australia, China, Japan, Thailand, and Puerto Rico.

How to claim free Cheese Toast samples
Customers need to visit a participating store on September 15 between midday and 2 p.m. but do not need to dine-in or make a purchase, according to Sizzler.
In addition to free samples and giveaways in-store, Sizzler is also hosting a Cheese Toast Challenge social media photo contest from now through to September 30. Guests can post unique optical illusion photos using cheese toast as a prop and upload the photo to either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #CheeseToastChallenge.
Each week, a winner will be selected to win a $100 Sizzler gift card. Competitors can also win Sizzler’s limited-edition Cheese Toast flavored lip balm and other branded swag.
“As a way to commemorate one of Sizzler’s most beloved and flavorful menu items, we decided to have a little fun and create a lip balm that’s just as distinct and memorable as our signature Cheese Toast,” said Kristina Van Bruggen, vice president of marketing at Sizzler. “The lip balm is available to win as part of the Cheese Toast Challenge social media contest all month long and will only be available in stores at participating locations on September 15.”
