Leonard has one year and $20 million left on his current contract as well as a $21 million player option for the 2019-20 season, one he is unlikely to take. The Spurs would have been able to offer Leonard a five-year, $221 million “supermax” contract this summer, but Leonard appeared willing to pass on the deal following a frustrating season full of injury troubles and confusing PR moves.

That’s a difference of $31 million if Leonard decides to re-sign following a potential trade to the Raptors, or $80 million if Leonard becomes a free agent in the summer of 2019 and signs with another team. 

Leonard should receive a shiny new deal in the next year or so regardless of what jersey he is wearing, but he stands to lose a lot by leaving San Antonio.
