Nelson, who spent six seasons on NBC’s “Parenthood,’ will reprise his role as Hayden Fox, the head football coach of the fictitious Division I Minnesota State Screamin’ Eagles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

We like the idea of Nelson, as Fox, poking and prodding his son, but “an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team” makes no sense, even less sense than Fox leaving Minnesota State to run the NFL expansion Orlando Breakers for the final show’s two seasons.

Ivy League schools are among the oldest universities in the country, and all of them have football teams. We know this is a TV show, but at least try to convince us there are elements of reality.

Regardless of the set-up, this is good new because “Coach” was a funny show for sports fans and non-sports fans alike.

No premiere date has been set for the 13-episode follow-up season.
