The move means the Big 12 can now hold a championship game without having to expand. The conference dropped to 10 members after Texas A&M and Missouri left for SEC in 2012. It’s the only Power 5 conference not to hold a title game.

“We had seven of nine affirmative votes,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said. Among the Division I Council, the SEC and Big Ten voted for the proposal. The ACC and American Athletic Conference opposed it.
In the Group of 5 conferences, the Sun Belt will now be able to host its own championship.
