There’s a chance the most dramatic finish of the night went largely unnoticed. Playing at the same time as Kentucky and Wichita State, No. 9 Providence produced a stunner when Rodney Bullock made a layup in the final seconds to beat eighth-seeded USC.

The 6 vs. 11 matchups failed to live up to the hype
When the matchups were announced on Selection Sunday, a few pundits referred to Arizona as the best No. 6 seed of all time. Of all time. Well, that obviously wasn’t the case as the Wildcats didn’t start competing Thursday until they fell 24 points behind the Shockers. Wichita State’s defense deserves a lot of credit, but this game was pretty ugly all the way around.
Fred Van Vleet led the Shockers with a game-high 16 points in a 65-55 win. Ron Baker added 13 points and six assists.
DeCOURCY: Backcourt woes holding back Purdue | Yale lives the dream
Meanwhile, the matchup between No. 11 Gonzaga and and No. 6 Seton Hall in Denver couldn’t have been any more of a mismatch. Though entering the tournament as one of the hottest teams, Seton Hall laid an egg. The Pirates played with no energy and let Gonzaga score at will, ultimately losing 68-52.
The Pirates’ Isaiah Whitehead, who came into the game having scored at least 20 points in nine of his last 10 games, matched an NCAA Tournament record by going 0-for-10 from beyond the arc. He was also seen taking oxygen multiple times on the bench.
Impact players
Arkansas-Little Rock star Josh Hagins scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-20 shooting to help the Trojans beat Purdue 85-83 in double overtime. The talented guard hit some surreal shots down the stretch, leading the Trojans to an improbable comeback. Hagins actually outscored Purdue by himself, 21-20, over the last 15 minutes stretching from regulation and the two overtimes.

Kansas sophomore Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk scored a career-high 23 points off the bench as the Jayhawks pounded Austin Peay, 105-79.
Miami (Fla.) senior guard Angel Rodriguez had 24 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help Miami beat Buffalo 79-72. His backcourt mate, Sheldon McClellan, added 20 points.
Yogi Ferrell helped Indiana advance by scoring 20 points and dishing out 10 assists against Chattanooga.
Utah had four players finish in double figures in its win over Fresno State. Center Jakob Pöltl led the way with 16 points and 18 rebounds.
In a losing effort against Kentucky, Stony Brook superstar Jameel Warney scored 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
Providence sophomore Rodney Bullock stepped up with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Friars stars Ben Bentil (19) and Kris Dunn (16) also scored in double figures.
So this is why we call it March Madness

What possessed Arizona coach Sean Miller to wear this shirt today? It can only be madness:
Arizona entered Thursday’s game ranked 19th in the nation averaging 81.2 points per game, but were held to just 19 in the first half. That was a season low.
