According to hair-care products brand Pantene, hair usually grows about 2 to 4 inches in four months and 6 to 8 inches in a year.

While this is how the usual hair growth cycle works, sometimes it can vary, depending on seasonal changes, hair and scalp health as well as medication, hormonal changes and diet among other factors.

Contrary to the popular opinion that our hair grows as one unit, there are some strands that rest when others grow. There are three stages of hair growth: the growth phase, which is the active phase of hair growth and lasts for two to eight years; the transition phase when your hair stops growing. This lasts for four to six weeks. The resting phase, when your hair starts falling out, lasts for two to three months.

If you want your hair to grow faster, Pantene suggests these hacks: try to get frequent trims to keep split ends away; keep your scalp healthy; don’t wash your hair with hot water, because it can cause moisture loss and heath damage; don’t use heat styling tools frequently for the same reason and don’t brush wet hair.
