In its latest financial report, Nintendo top brass included a line that states a new Switch model isn’t coming this year.

“Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020,” the document reads.

This goes against the latest in a long line of speculation dating back to 2018. Taiwanese site DigiTimes reported that production of a new Switch model would begin by the end of the first quarter of 2020.

DigiTimes reports the new Switch will supposedly have a magnesium alloy body instead of plastic and come with a better CPU. This is similar to the Nintendo Switch “Pro” - as fans have begun calling it - that’s been reported by the Wall Street Journal in the past.

In October 2018, a WSJ report said Nintendo wanted to maintain its momentum from the Switch’s initial release and stay competitive in the current market by bringing out new models.

In a CNET hands-on event with the Switch Lite - a smaller, handheld-focused model - in July 2019, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser told the outlet that the handheld console is not a “sequel” but an alternative to the original Switch.

If a new Switch isn’t coming in 2020, fans will have to wait until 2021 or later. Nintendo did reveal a new special edition Switch to celebrate the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, however.

On March 13, a special-edition Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch system will be available in stores at a suggested retail price of $299.99. The system takes design inspiration from the new game and comes with unique pastel green and blue Joy-Con controllers that are white on the back. The dock will also be white with Tom Nook, Timmy and Tommy on the back.

Pre-orders for the system will be in select retailers soon. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons game launches for Nintendo Switch on March 20 at a suggested retail price of $59.99.

Correction: An earlier version of the story stated Doug Bowser said, “another Switch would be coming in the future” which was incorrect and removed.
