Toyota will sell the GR Corolla in two trim levels when in reaches U.S. shores beginning later this year: Core Grade and Circuit Edition.

The body of both grades modifies the traditional Corolla Hatchback design with aggressive details. Toyota’s GR Corolla Core Grade will be sold with either a white, black, or Supersonic Red paint job. Its color-matched roof comes with a lip spoiler while GR-Four stamped side rockers and wide fender flares give a nod to the car’s performance. Its seats wear the GR logo.

GR Corolla Circult Edition is a limited-run model due in 2023 that will be available in white, Supersonic Red, or Heavy Metal exterior colors with the same side rockers and wide fenders. It adds a forged carbon fiber roof, vented bulge hood and spoiler. The interior houses Brin Naub suede-trimmed sport seats with red accents and a launch-year-exclusive Morizo-signed shift knob.

Both versions of the car ride on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires wrapped around 18-inch gloss-black 15-spoke cast alloy wheels.

All models have Toyota’s small but mighty turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque. Only a six-speed manual transmission has been paired with the engine.

That’s a big upgrade from the traditional Corolla, which maxes out at 169 horsepower.

All-wheel drive comes standard and is customizable with front-rear power settings offering 60-40, 50-50 or 30-70 power distribution to the front and rear wheels. The GR Corolla Circuit Edition also gets front and rear Torsen limited slip differentials.

The car’s growl comes from a triple exhaust out back.

Toyota has equipped the models with the usual suite of Corolla tech, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A high-end JBL sound system is available.

Though sports cars are traditionally less well equipped than the typical passenger vehicle, the Corollas also come with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the company’s most advanced suite of driver assist and safety technology.

Each GR Corolla buyer gets a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association, featuring a high-performance driving event with expert instruction.

Pricing for the car will be announced later this year.
