Nintendo announced Friday that a special livestream with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai will premiere on Monday, June 22, at 10 a.m EDT. This 35-minute video livestream will feature an in-depth look at the upcoming DLC fighter.
Back in March, Nintendo held a surprise Direct presentation that confirmed the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be from the ARMS! Franchise. The Nintendo Direct intel also confirmed that the release of this character would be in June. In addition to announcing the new character, this upcoming livestream will also likely reveal when the DLC fighter will be released.
The special demo livestream with Sakurai can be viewed on the official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate website.
It’s also very likely that the official Nintendo YouTube and Twitch channels will also stream the special demo.
ARMS! wasreleased for Nintendo Switch in June 2017, as one of the first titles for the next gen-console. It’s a fighting game that allows players to use the Switch’s Joy-Cons to punch and block. Gameplay differs depending on the character and the fist augments, called ARMS, that are used.
There are 15 characters in the ARMS! roster, so there are a few options for Nintendo to choose from. Masahiro Sakurai will explain the decision behind the character that’s been selected to join the Smash Bros. fray; with so many different fighters to choose from it’ll be interesting to hear the reasoning.
Spring Man, the poster boy of the ARMS! game, is already in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy. If Spring Man is confirmed as the next DLC character, it’ll mark the first time an assist trophy became its own character afterward. (Those who have been hoping for Waluigi to join the fight can regain some hope if this happens.)
Sakurai revealed that Fighters Pass Vol. 2 in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will introduce six more characters, up from five in the last volume of DLC. The ARMS! character will mark the first of this new volume of DLC.
The director also revealed that once Volume 2 is complete, there are no plans for more Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC at this time.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for Nintendo Switch.
