According to the New York Post, at least one person was killed and 10 others injured during a spate of shootings from Saturday into Sunday morning. The previous weekend, a 1-year-old baby boy was killed in a shooting in the borough on Sunday evening....

Starting Tuesday, all individuals ages 2 and older must wear masks at all indoor public locations in Erie County. The mandate will require masks to be worn whether people are vaccinated or not in places such as bars and restaurants, grocery stores, hotels and banks, gyms and fitness centers and hair salons. Erie County, home to the city of Buffalo, has reported 456 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past seven days, more than four times the federal government’s threshold to define a high transmission rate, according to County Executive Mark Poloncarz....

In a recent press release, the New York State Police said that the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 27 around 12 p.m. local time, when state troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate-87 in the town of Coxsackie. According to police, the vehicle was stopped by state troopers for a “vehicle and traffic violation.” After stopping the vehicle, a preliminary investigation led troopers to discover that the driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license....

The New York City Council approved the NYPD budget increase in a 39-6 Wednesday vote, according to NY1 News political reporter, Courtney Gross. The vote effectively increases the NYPD budget from $5.2 billion to $5.4 billion. The increase will go towards information technology upgrades, internal reform efforts and officer overtime. The budget increase has coincided with a citywide increase in crime. In May, the city saw a 22 percent increase in crime compared with May 2020, the NYPD announced on June 3....

Attendance for home games is currently capped at 20 percent of capacity for both the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, but New York Gov.
