Researchers from Australia evaluated the survivability of COVID-19 on various surfaces at three different temperatures. Using facial recognition, researchers who set out to prove Columbus wrong instead found evidence suggesting he could have been right. “I’ve spent years trying to prove Columbus wrong when he was right: There were Caribs in the northern Caribbean when he arrived,” William Keegan, curator of Caribbean archeology at the Museum of Natural History, University of Florida, said in a statement. Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of the electric car company, confirmed in an earnings call this week the next gigafactory plant would be built close to the state capital and used to make at least two much-anticipated vehicles, the Cybertruck and Semi. In a message welcoming the move, Huston-Tillotson said it would be partnering with the firm to help provide employment opportunities and careers for its students. A spokesperson revealed a university leadership team had met with officials from Tesla, with the conversation leading to “actual strategies,” including faculty collaborations and undergraduate research....

The city’s health department announced on Thursday that a temporary clinic at the Chelsea Sexual Health Clinic will be opened to administer the two-dose Jynneos vaccine to eligible individuals who have been recently exposed to monkeypox. However, by Thursday afternoon, the health department tweeted that it would not allow anymore walk-ins for the day and that appointments were booked through Monday, but individuals opting for the vaccine were advised to check back on Sunday for next week appointments....

Known as the biggest marathon in the world, this year’s marathon was capped at 33,000 runners because of health and safety concerns. The runners will start in five waves, and within those waves, there are three starting areas. The runners are required to wear masks while in the crowded starting areas. Last October, the NYC Marathon held a virtual race that brought in around 16,000 participants from 108 different countries....

Newburgh City Councilman Omari Shakur was recorded hurling abuse at police officers while refusing to hand over his license and registration in the 25-minute clip, which was obtained by Mid Hudson News. During the footage, Shakur can be seen on his cellphone, sitting in his SUV in the middle of Carpenter Avenue, while Newburgh police officers speak to him. Shakur repeatedly refuses to hand over his license and registration because he “sitting here talking bout some official business” before turning to one officer and yelling “I’m your f*****g boss....

A New Yorker piece published Saturday, “The Sound and the Fury of Andrew Cuomo,” highlighted several claims of very personal threats between the governor and elected state officials. Ron Kim, a Democratic assemblyman from Queens, said Cuomo threatened him so loudly over the phone one recent evening that it upset his wife and children in their home. “I will destroy you” Kim recalled, describing Cuomo’s angry phone call over public criticism he’d made of the nursing home deaths....

“Through early detection, last November, I was diagnosed with early stage chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). I then began treatment with an immediately positive response and no side effects,” the New York Republican, 41, said in a statement. “Over the last 9 months, I have achieved complete remission, am expected to live a normal life, and my doctor says I currently have no evidence of this disease in my system.”...

The customer, whose tirade was caught on camera and reported by Fox 5 San Diego, also appears to castigate the staff member over his ability to speak English.
