Adam Schmidt, who once trained under Callaghan, filed a lawsuit against his former coach, the USFS and Onyx Ice Arena in Detroit for alleged sexual abuse from 1999-2001, according to a report in USA TODAY. The arena is where Schmidt trained with Callaghan. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego, California, indicates that Schmidt, 34, was 14 when he was first sexually assaulted by Callaghan. The first incident took place after the coach had been dismissed from USFS for similar allegations earlier in 1999, according to the report....

University of New Mexico Hospital and Presbyterian Healthcare Services officials said their emergency rooms are being overwhelmed with patients and asked for those seeking tests for COVID-19 and treatment for mild ailments to go elsewhere. According to Worldometers, daily COVID cases in the state are increasing sharply in January, with a total of 4,252 cases reported just on Friday. As of Sunday, there were over 47,500 active cases. Johns Hopkins University data shows hospitalizations are also higher, though not quite at December’s peaks, with 618 hospitalized for the virus as of Monday....

Nintendo announced the latest online presentation will feature approximately 40 minutes of information focused on 2019 Switch games on Wednesday September 4 at 6 p.m. EDT. Pokémon Sword and Shield and Luigi’s Mansion 3 are confirmed to be given a spotlight this time around. The last Nintendo Direct was the Indie World presentation, which revealed a ton of information about upcoming independent games coming to Switch. The highlight of that presentation was the reveal that Ori and the Blind Forest - a previously Xbox-exclusive title - was coming to Switch....

The mayor of the country’s largest city on Friday pleaded with the Rent Guidelines Board, which establishes payment adjustments for New York’s one million rent stabilized dwelling units, to freeze rent for tenants struggling due to the coronavirus shut down of the economy. But the mayor’s demands, which would see the mayoral-appointed board vote not to raise rent and to temporarily suspend payments, has been denied by the landlords and management groups represented on the panel....
