The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet easily took the checkered flag in Sunday’s Jockey Made in America 250 presented by KwikTrip at Road America, the fifth road race of the season. He previously won at Circuit of the Americas in a rain-shortened race and finished second at Sonoma and Daytona. Sunday’s win is the seventh road course victory of his career, good for third-most all time. Sunday’s race was an action-packed affair, with drivers often taking turns too fast and ending up in grass, sand or gravel....

Denny Hamlin is coming off of his third win of the year and second top-2 finish in a row, but he’ll have stiff competition this week in New York as Chase Elliott is the defending champion, Martin Truex Jr. has a great recent history at the track and Kyle Busch is always good on road courses. This 3.4-mile track is a significantly less technical one than Sonoma, but it presents challenges of its own and higher speeds as well....

The second half of the season will feature 17 straight races from July to November, a stretch equivalent to the NFL regular season. With just two off weeks during the 38-race season — the other is Easter weekend in April — the 40-plus Sprint Cup drivers and teams will be running on empty come November....

Kevin Harvick remains the favorite, his odds shortened at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook from 5-to-1 earlier this week to 9-to-2. Elliott and Truex finished a full nine seconds better than the rest of the field in a race dominated by two of the best road course drivers. Elliott led 81 of the 90 laps, the second most ever at Watkins Glen. The No. 9 became just the fifth driver ever to repeat winning on the track and the first since Marcos Ambrose in 2011-12.
