According to a Johns Hopkins University tracker, New York City has over 10,700 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, while South Korea has at least 8,961. According to its Department of Health, New York state has over 15,100 confirmed cases, more than any other state as well as a number of countries, including the United Kingdom. There have also been over 115 deaths in New York state. The increasing numbers of confirmed cases in the state come just days after Governor Andrew Cuomo implemented a number of policies to help stop the virus’ spread....

During a recent press conference, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city has seen “more gun arrests this year than we’ve seen at any time, proportionally, since 25 years ago.” According to de Blasio, in July 2021, shooting incidents decreased by 35 percent when compared to the same time in 2020. Additionally, the city also saw a decrease in murders in July by 49.1 percent, according to de Blasio....

The changed policy, which takes effect in 60 days, is the result of a class-action lawsuit filed on March 16, 2018 by Arwa Aziz and Jamilla Clark, two Muslim women. The women said the NYPD’s policy of removing religious headwear violated their religious rights and left them in tears and shame following their separate encounters with police. The settlement states that NYPD officers will now be trained not to remove suspects’ religious headwear unless there’s reason to believe it’s being worn as a disguise....

That relationship is about to change. Today Uber announced that users will be able to hail New York City taxis in its app this spring. The first-of-its-kind deal brings together Uber and taxi technology system provider Creative Mobile Technologies (CMT). CMT’s taxi app Arro will get access to Uber’s customer base. That will ease Uber’s current driver shortage, which is expected to reduce prices for users. The average costs of a rideshare rose 92 percent between January 2018 and July 2021, according to Rakuten Intelligence....

Those entering New Zealand have to stay in isolation in a hotel for 14 days.
